RESEARCH & INSIGHTS

PROJECT-BASED WORK uses primary research and trends analysis to develop cultural insights that have direct relevance to your business questions, while challenging you with new perspectives.

How we carry out our research:

Projects aim to understand a specific area or theme of investigation that you want to explore by situating it within the context of the consumer. Central to our approach is Business Anthropology that focuses on understanding business and innovation questions from the perspective of the consumer or organisational culture. This enables us to develop actionable insights and new innovation opportunities by unearthing latent behaviours and needs of your consumers and employees.

In the field:

We are experts in exploring the deep-cultural factors that shape consumer behaviours, values and need-states. We do this by understanding your brand and business questions in the context of your consumers’ world. Our expertise in qualitative & design research, social science and trends enables us to identify the latent behaviours behind peoples’ choices in consuming the brands that they do and how brands and market categories impact on consumer culture.

The methods we use include –
/ Ethnography
/ Mobile Ethnography
/ Ethnographic Interviews
/ Focus Group Conversations
/ Opinion Leader Interviews
/ Journey Mapping

Cultural Trends:

We live in rapidly evolving and dynamic conditions that can be problematic and puzzling to navigate. JCIS offers our clients comprehensive cultural trends analysis of diverse and complex subjects in order to contextualise business questions and root strategies in real world cultural ecosystems.

This can encompass surveys of current global cultural trends, extrapolated current conditions to discover near-future trends that will come to influence and affect you business and research-grounded speculated futures to equip you to anticipate and induce future consumer markets.

JCIS provides evocative thought-pieces, white papers and presentations, including infographics and illustrations, to give you a firm understanding of the cultural trends that encircle your business and the trends that will come to direct your decisions.

Research Process:

Our research projects follow a process that guarantees our clients actionable insights for innovation.

As a consultant, John brings expertise in supporting and developing teams – from the C-Suite to research teams to planners and creatives in advertising and brand agencies –  so they embed cultural analysis thinking within their work.  This results in consumer culture being placed at the core of his clients’ organisations.

John also facilitates sessions where clients can pressure- test and work through ideas, problems and strategies so that they have the maximum positive impact with their consumers.

Process:

Consultancy with John means clients have access to his expertise when developing and implementing their strategies. He can invest in their vision to help them produce disruptive and innovative outcomes.

John designs and facilitates internal brainstorming, strategy and ideation sessions with the aim of stimulating innovative thinking, creating alignment between different internal stakeholders and helping develop actionable outcomes in relation to business strategy, NPD and brand vision. All facilitated workshops are contracted so that a set of actionable next steps are delivered.

The consultancy service is based on an agreed number of days over a set time frame. There are two ways this works:

1/ Over the duration of a project when a client requires external expert input and analysis. Days are usually contracted for work on the front and back end of a project.

2/ Retainer over an agreed number of months. This provides clients with on-going access to John’s expert knowledge,  and support. This may be through face-to-face meetings, conference video calls, telephone and email contact.

C-SCHOOL

C-SCHOOL is an innovative program that provides you with hands-on training in how to use cultural analysis to create powerful and actionable insights for approaching your business and brand challenges.

How can C-School help you make better business decisions and strategies?

Value:

JCIS C-School puts consumer and user culture at the core of innovation. Our Cultural Analysis For Business (CAB) approach provides training around the practical and theoretical principles of understanding consumer culture and behaviour. It provides you, your teams and organisation with practical and theoretical tools to develop new insights and strategies by unearthing the latent behaviours, needs and experiences of consumers. You will put yourself in the shoes of the consumers’ everyday culture and learn how to see their world from a holistic position. Our people- centred philosophy will challenge common and fixed perceptions that companies often have of their consumers, their brands, products and market categories.

Process:

We offer different types of training, from 90-minute Taster Sessions to 2 day, fully-customised workshops. Public workshops are open to any organisation and are scheduled throughout the year. They are ideal if you’re looking for Innovation Training for yourself or a few other people from your team and you don’t require bespoke content.

If you’d like training for larger groups, or bespoke content and scheduling, then private (in-house) training is appropriate.
